“Navikaya” Social Security Benefit Scheme

About Navikaya Scheme

This is a Special Social Security Scheme introduced for Seafarers by the Sri Lanka Social Security Board and the Merchant Shipping Secretariat jointly, with the objective of providing financial care at the necessary time, enabling seafarers to live with dignity while ensuring the required social security protection.

The scheme covers essential areas such as aging, inactivation due to employment, work accidents and injuries, employment-related diseases, family benefits, and protection for dependants. These are fulfilled under nine (09) sections of social security requirements implemented on behalf of seafarers in accordance with the Regulations enacted under the Merchant Shipping Act No. 52 of 1971, in compliance with the International Labour Organization’s Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC 2006), ratified by Sri Lanka.
